Final bit of fur.
After making thousands of strands of fur, the back of Spinal is near completion. It took much more effort and fur than I previous thought but I’m happy with the result. Now I’m almost ready to bolt in the bronze head.

This may take a while
When I set out to make and cover this back board with fluffy fur, I didn’t realize the amount of time and effort I was getting myself into. I flocked the board, drilled hundreds of holes, made each individual fur strand, and plugged them into each hole. Before the fluff
I had to mount the head to the back board to make sure everything bolts together correctly before I flock the board and begin adding the fluff.
It’s not all bronze.
I’m starting to make the fluff for my self portrait “Spinal”. It’s going to take a while.

Now that the patina is where I would like it to be after several long burials through 3 seasons, I’m starting to work out the last steps with mixed materials.

After burying 5 works in the ground, some results are in.
The cast bronze figs for my piece “Basin” which go in the bucket with the fish now look like gem turquoise after being buried in the ground for months and stored in a damp basement. I just waxed them. The Intimate Brooms, Split and Spinal got a ferric patina before their burials in the ground. I plan to have 5 works buried in the ground in two weeks time.

The top section of “Basin” got a cupric patina tonight. I’m ahead of schedule so this will be buried in the ground on Thanksgiving Day. I still have the bottom section to patina (the raised rug) so that will be buried in a week.

The bronze casting of my dead head for “Spinal” wasn’t that bad. It has a few minor things like flashing running down the front and sides of the face but nothing I can’t fix.
