I have to sculpt the head all over again-this time in wax. I will be adding my hair that falls more over my forehead—easier in wax than in clay. Next time I work the head, it will be in bronze.
Mold and first wax

Molding the head of "Spinal"
Switching gears soon
Wood is on the horizon after the current bronze piece. I consider myself a mixed media artist but I have been working in bronze for a long time now because I have the ability. Time to switch gears.
Skin texture before molding.
Spinal
for my piece "Spinal", my severed head gets an articulated shovel handle.
Growing hair
Adding some hair. More to go but I'm pretty sure the modeled hair is a lot neater than my actual.
I started a new piece after a summer break.
I started "Spinal" which is part of the shovel series. It requires that I sculpt my severed head (self portrait) which proved more difficult than I thought it would be. My process thinking is to get the likeness as close as possible in clay, and then mold the head, cast a wax, and work the wax as close as possible before investing for bronze casting. So far so good I think. I'm starting to work on the hair and hone the details.
Nails!
I cast some bronze nails for a new piece.
Investing the bell in ceramic shell.
I'm moving this piece super fast. I wasn't it in bronze asap.
A new piece in the works...
For whom the bell tolls... I'm making a bell out of two shovel heads for the next piece.
Mood
My hole changes each week like a mood stone.
Hole in the dark.
I'm slowly putting the hole in a night setting with a light source.
Hole
Weekends are for digging deeper holes.
Tusk (Broken)
Broken Tusk, 2017. Cast resin, brass rivets, ivory flocking.
Nails
Some straight, some bent. in wax but soon to be in bronze.
Hole, 2017
Little by little Trunk's hole is becoming more of a hole.
Trunk's plinth.
With all the 45 degree cuts to wrap around the sides, this oak flooring plinth will take me a bit longer than I anticipated.
"Bread" in location at its new home.
When I need texture...
No one will ever tell you that they saw me painting with expensive sable or animal fur brushes but they will offer up crazy stories of me painting with plastic wheat grass and other odd items. #brooklynart #wip #hole #weekendsareforpainting
