Lots of burials...

The Intimate Brooms, Split and Spinal got a ferric patina before their burials in the ground. I plan to have 5 works buried in the ground in two weeks time.

The top section of “Basin” got a cupric patina tonight. I’m ahead of schedule so this will be buried in the ground on Thanksgiving Day. I still have the bottom section to patina (the raised rug) so that will be buried in a week.

Working the dead head for the third time

IMG_3596.JPG

The bronze casting of my dead head for “Spinal” wasn’t that bad. It has a few minor things like flashing running down the front and sides of the face but nothing I can’t fix. Now it’s time to work the head a third and last time. #wip #selfportrait #brooklynart #bushwickart #spinal #bronze #lastbronzeforawhile

Re-working the wax

I have to sculpt the head all over again-this time in wax. I will be adding my hair that falls more over my forehead—easier in wax than in clay. Next time I work the head, it will be in bronze.

Molding the head of "Spinal"

Switching gears soon

Wood is on the horizon after the current bronze piece. I consider myself a mixed media artist but I have been working in bronze for a long time now because I have the ability. Time to switch gears.

Spinal

for my piece "Spinal", my severed head gets an articulated shovel handle.

Growing hair

Adding some hair. More to go but I'm pretty sure the modeled hair is a lot neater than my actual.

I started a new piece after a summer break.

I started "Spinal" which is part of the shovel series. It requires that I sculpt my severed head (self portrait) which proved more difficult than I thought it would be. My process thinking is to get the likeness as close as possible in clay, and then mold the head, cast a wax, and work the wax as close as possible before investing for bronze casting. So far so good I think. I'm starting to work on the hair and hone the details.

Nails!

I cast some bronze nails for a new piece.

A new piece in the works...

For whom the bell tolls... I'm making a bell out of two shovel heads for the next piece.

Mood

My hole changes each week like a mood stone.
